A National Historical Park in South Kona, Pu'uhonua O Honaunau, also known as the Place of Refuge or City of Refuge, is a tranquil, serene setting for small wedding parties.   Swaying palms and sandy pathways lined by lava, border the deep blue ocean, providing a dramatic, yet peaceful setting for your ceremony. There is also a small sandy beach down the trail that leads to a large lava tube.   Sunrise as well as sunset is spectacular.   There is a $50 fee for weddings or renewal of vow ceremonies  which benefits the National Park itself.

Directly adjoining the Four Seasons Resort at Hualalai is the lovely and pristine Kuki'o Beach.  Public access is through the road that leads to the hotel.  This road is also shared by the Kona Village Resort.  As you enter the premises,  you will pass by the guard shack.  Ask for public access and you will be given a parking pass.  Parking is limited so large parties are not recommended.  No fee is required but other weddings may be taking place.  Although not a large beach, it can support several weddings without interfering with each other.  Not pictured on the map, it is about a 10 minute drive north of  the Kona Airport.  Another view of the beach is seen below.

Often pictured on postcards, this little blue church is directly on the beach in Keauhou.  A quaint, charming, chapel next to Kahalu'u Beach Park with the best snorkeling on the island.  The $160 location fee goes to St. Michael's Church.

Also known as Harbor Beach or Turtle Beach, this  nearly secluded site offers a sandy beach and palm trees providing a beautiful backdrop for ceremonies.  Sea turtle, or Honu,  sightings are guaranteed.  The Honu is a sign of good luck to the Hawaiians.  A $50 fee is required for a permit to perform marriages.                     Scott and Allyson Niven

Located at the northern tip of the island, Waipio Valley is a majestic, mysterious, and magical spot.    It is Hawaii as you've always imagined it, with its waterfalls and sheer cliffs dropping off into the ocean.  To enter the valley itself, a four wheel drive vehicle is necessary but the most spectacular views are from the overlook, such as in the above photo.  This ceremony took place at the Hale Kukui, Orchard Retreat at Waipio Valley.  Click on the hyperlink for more information.  Rainfall has contributed to the dramatic landscape, so be aware.  Mornings are the best for good weather.  By noon, it is usually cloudy with chances of rain; not good for photographs, but it will bring you showers of blessings.   The retreat and the surrounding areas make for a truly romantic getaway.  What an inspiring way to begin your wedding day
